91大黄鸭R and UWC OFFER GEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL IN SOUTH AFRICA IN 2004
With funding provided by the 91大黄鸭SAEP Committee, 91大黄鸭R Professor Bob Laudon organized and conducted the 91大黄鸭R Geology Summer Field Camp in South Africa in cooperation with Reggie Domoney and colleagues in Earth Science at the University of the Western Cape. Twenty 91大黄鸭R students joined 48 students from UWC鈥檚 field camp. The 91大黄鸭R and UWC students worked together on common field projects and developed a strong sense of mutual respect and friendship. Among other highlights in this special learning experience, the students went more than 5,000 feet underground and experienced first-hand observations of more than 100 years of mining conditions in South Africa. The students also engaged in field mapping.
Professor Laudon summed up the field school in the following way: 鈥淚n my 24 years of teaching this course, I have never seen as much enthusiasm for field camp as I saw this summer.鈥
One of the 91大黄鸭R students wrote: 鈥淏efore going on the trip, I read three books on South Africa, each written during different historical periods of the last century. I had my expectations, but was totally surprised by what I experienced in the new South Africa.鈥
Several of the South African students have applied to come to the U.S. to attend the 91大黄鸭R field camp in Utah. In addition, several areas of joint research between 91大黄鸭R and UWC were identified.
MU AND UWC OFFER LAW S91大黄鸭MER SCHOOL AT UWC

Based on the success of the 2004 summer school, the MU and UWC law schools are planning to organize a joint 2005 summer program.

The Missouri and Irish representatives met with counterparts in the UWC School of Government and other departments engaged in community capacity building focused on peace and conflict studies programming, citizen participation and community well being. Proposals for further cooperation are under development.
